Donetsk

Donetsk is the administrative centre of Donetsk region. The city of Donetsk, the town of Mospino and the urban village Larino belong to Donetsk City Council.

Donetsk was founded in 1869. Its founder was John James Hughes, the English technician and metallurgist, the manager of Novorossiysk Coal, Iron and Rail Production Company. At first it was called Yuzovka, from 1924 till 1961 - Stalino, since 1961 it has been called Donetsk.

Donetsk is today a rapidly developing megapolis, which has great scientific potential, highly qualified workers and specialists, well-developed infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities. City economy is represented by 200 industrial enterprises with production output of more than 5 billion hryvnias and more than 20 000 small and medium-sized enterprises. For about 180 000 Donetsk citizens are employed there.

Infrastructure

Plans for the modernization of the infrastructure
Modernization of pedestrian subways, crossings, completion of the construction of the subway, opening of new routes for electric and car transport system will significantly improve local transport capacities and the quality of provided services. The costs of this investment are not known yet.

Additional transport capacities
The stadium in Donetsk is located in a park, near the city center. The fan zones will be located not far from the stadia (a few-minute walk). Special bus and subway services will be put into operation to ensure secure and uninterrupted transport of persons. Additionally private transport companies will render transport services. A hundred additional urban buses will be made available.

Traffic arrangements
The city authorities do not expect any major problems with traffic jams during UEFA EURO 2012. Donetsk has a vast road network.
