Poznań is a city in west-central Poland with over 578,900 inhabitants (2002). Located by the Warta River, it is one of the oldest cities in Poland, making it an important historical centre. Poznań's impressive cathedral is the earliest cathedral in the country, containing the tombs of the first Polish rulers: duke Mieszko I, king Boleslaus the Brave, king Mieszko II, duke Casimir I the Restorer, duke Przemysł I and king Przemysł II.
Today the city is a vibrant centre of trade, industry, and education. Poznań is Poland's 5th largest city and 4th biggest industrial centre. It is also the administrative capital of the Greater Poland Voivodeship.
Lech Poznań is a Polish football club based in Poznań, Poland. The club is named after Lech, the legendary founder of Poland. It originates from the established in 1922 Lutnia Poznań, which since then has changed its name several times. From 1933 until 1994 club has been linked closely to Polish State Railways (PKP). That is why its popular nickname is Kolejorz which means The Railwayman in local slang. The club's debut in Polish First League took place in March 1948. The brightest era of Lech were the early 1980's and early 1990's. Lech Poznań is the most popular football club in the Greater Poland region.

Apart from hotels, in the radius of 75 km from Poznan„ there are such facilities as inns, private pensions and lodgings in country mansions, boarding schools, youth hostels etc. They can provide accommodation to tourists during UEFA EURO 2012. Its is difficult to provide exact figures but the total sleeping capacity in those facilities amounts to about 22,000, including:

Infrastructure
Plans for the modernization of the infrastructure
- Construction of St. Roch bridge and a tramway route form Jana Pawla II street to Podgorna street. In 2005
- PLN 4,508,000; total allocation from the budget - PLN 28,349,000; total cost of the project - PLN 70,250,800.
- Construction of the opening of Glogowska street, Stages I-III - from A2 motorway (the node of Ostatnia street) to Gorczynskiego Viaduct, in 2005 - PLN 30,868,600; total allocation from the budget - PLN 137,966,100; total cost of the project - PLN 358,509,300.
- Polska street - Bulgarska street - Stage I - from Dabrowskiego street to Bukowa street. In 2005 - PLN 8,000,000; total allocation from the budget - PLN 18,353,700.
- Construction of roads and road infrastructure in Marcelin area. In 2005 - PLN 19,748,000; total allocation from the budget - PLN 27,200,900; total cost of the project - PLN 32,001,000.
- Refurbishment and modernization of technical facilities for national roads No. 5 and 11 in Poznan in 2005 - PLN 10,000,000; total allocation from the budget - PLN 29,396,300; total cost of the project - PLN 108,960,000.
- Modernization of technical facilities. In 2005 - PLN 2,100,000; total allocation from the budget - PLN 24,955,000.
- Dolna Wilda street - linking Krolowej Jadwigi street with Debiecki node on the motorway. In 2005 - PLN 1,500,000; total allocation from the budget - PLN 17,000,000; total cost of the project - PLN 35,000,000.
- Modernization of the existing Lechickiej and Lutyckiej streets - Stages I and II – the section form Lecha bridge to Umultowska street. In 2005 - PLN 1,000,000; total allocation from the budget - PLN 19,884,500; total cost of the project - PLN 39,684,500.
- Construction of part III of the transport backbone from Hetmanska street to Krzywoustego street - linking II and III of the transport backbone - in 2005 - PLN 5,000,000; total allocation from the budget - PLN 15,800,000; total cost of the project - PLN 43 500 000 PLN.
- Transport node at Krolowej Jadwigi street including refurbishment of the crossing of Gorna Wilda - Dolna Wilda - Plwiejska streets, including Kosciuszki street. In 2005 - PLN 1,500,000; total allocation from the budget - PLN 39,125,000; total cost of the project - PLN 54,825,000.
- Construction of road infrastructure Strzeszyn “L” - in 2005 - PLN 3,000,000; total allocation from the budget - PLN 17,023,000.
The city of Poznan has applied for co-financing of the refurbishment of road infrastructure with EU funds.
Additional transport capacities
Poznan can guarantee additional transport capacities form the city center to the stadium at the level of 15,000 passengers per hour, including:
- 9000 persons/hour - by tramway,
- 6000 persons/hour - by bus.
Public transport will operate on all days of UEFA EURO 2012, and if required also before and after the Championships. Additional transport facilities will be provided from 10 a.m. to 2 at night. If required, the time frame can be changed. Additional transport facilities (tramways and buses) can be provided for suburban inhabitants.
Traffic arrangements
As of today, the authorities of Poznan do not foresee any problems with street traffic. Should any problems arise, they will be solved by assigning additional traffic lanes exclusively for vehicles related to UEFA EURO 2012. Traffic lanes so assigned will be used by vehicles carrying tournament participants, VIPs, referees etc. Such solutions are already in place in Poznan when Porsche Open tennis tournament is held.
